Well, I was wondering what the courtship displays of common livebearers were, because my male fish were acting very oddly.

My male swordtail was zipping around the aquarium backwards(gave me quite a laugh) and my male platy was swimming up very close to the sides of the girls and swimming forward quite suddenly and he would repeat the process.

Is what I described above normal? And can anyone tell me what guppies and mollies do, because I want to know beforehand.

Thanks. :good:

The swordtail sounds like he is displaying trying to attract attention, all his fins raised, moving forward and back quite quickly.
The platy is taking the more direct "i'll slip her one when she's not expecting it route",You'll see his gonopodium moving when he swims upto them quickly.

Guppies do a bit of both but mostly the direct approach, mollies i can't help you with not kept them for years.
