Sorry if this is not the correct place for this, I could not see anywhere I thought was more appropriate.

I have found a 10 gallon fish tank for sale, it is the size/shape/stand I want exactly. I already have one similar, and I am very pleased with it.

The problem is that it is about 200 miles away from me in the UK, and on enquiry, the seller has said, a little reluctantly, that he will send at my expense.

That is fine, and is as I would expect. I still think it is worth it to get what I want. I am happy to make the arrangements, although the seller will have to pack the tank/stand for me, as presumably even if I arrange collection, the delivery company will not want to know.

Has anyone else done this, and if so, what method have they used? Courier or Parcelforce, or what? Would they recommend it?

I looked on Ebay to see what people were charging to send an aquarium of about equivalent size/bulk, and the charge (where sellers were prepared to send) was about £20 tops.

Any experiences/comments gratefully received. :*

:hi:
This would probably be best ansered on the main Chit Chat page.
I would never want a tank sent via courier unless they were specialist couriers. Best check with a courier company if they will even accept sending glass tanks and will cover for insurance in event of a crack or break.

In my opinion it's not worth the risk - and the cost would be too high. I can't see it being in the £20 region either - not insured anyway. And for a 10 gallon it most definitely won't be worth it I'm afraid. You might be best just ordering it from your lfs.

Good luck :)

Thank you for your advice.

I think I am probably going to be sensible - but if I am not, I will let you know how I get on! The asking price of the tank/stand is so tempting as to be worth a punt, but it is no bargain at all if it arrives in shards.

Would be interesting to know how those on Ebay get on with their £20 shipping, though, and whether the item arrives in one piece ...

eBay UK have a delivery subsidiary that is very good for specialist and fragile items, they can even be booked online and paid for with PayPal!

The price is based on size, not weight and if I've read it right, a 10g tank should be under £10 to send within the UK

Have a look at http://www.parcel2go.com

There is a company advertises at specialising in delivery of tanks on ebay, i found them by typing Fish Tank, into the search, obviously this brings up alot of other stuff, but they are there, sorry i dont have the link handy

Thanks, Claire, could that be 'Aquavan.co.uk'?

I did have a look at this company, but wondered if they might be excessively pricey as it looks as if they offer a collection/delivery as one trip. Although I would like to get hold of this tank/stand, it is no Seabray (!), and if collection/delivery is more than about £50, it becomes simply not worth it.

I will let you all know how I get on, if I go ahead, as it may well be of interest to others! :)

Indeed let us know if you end up using a courier - it would be of interest :)
