Noticed in one of my tanks today when changing water ,black on the leaves of some plants, it came of when I rubbed it ,what is it and what caused it?

When your hoovering the tank out ,do you take all the plants out?

I don't know about the black, but I remember reading somewhere it could be excess iron (don't quote me on that).

As for moving the plants, I don't do that unless I need to re-aquascape or absolutely have to move them. My corys, kuhlis, and MTS do an excellent job of cleaning up the sand and keeping the areas around the plants I miss clean. :)

Moving your plants too much will lead to them dying... any debris that's left around the plants will break down and feed the plants :)

No wonder they aren't doing well,I keep yanking them out

Thanx guys
