Hello everyone,

I just thought I'd share a couple of lower quality cell phone pics of my lone ghost shrimp, Gary. He(or she) has been with me for about a year. Initially started off as a feeder for my severum, this was the lone survivor and I didn't feel like feeding it.
Currently residing in my 20g with some five cories and ten neon tetras, I was finally able to snap a couple of closer shots of him from the side of my tank. Hope you enjoy.

... you can sort of see him on the right side

... and here he was an two inches away from my phone. I know the quality sucks  , but hey...

I had some pics of him just floating in the water eating a pellet for my cories, but the pics turned out worse than these.

Nice ghost. :good:

You should get him some friends, you'll see him more often then.

The day after I posted the pics I had a friend go get nine more. I would've got some more sooner but for some reason I was thinking that the cories were go to pick on them.

I can't really tell how many are in there now since my 20 is full of fake plants. It's really hard to tell where they are if I can't spot there "antennas."

Although blunt, you're right Paul. The pics are a lot crappy but, believe it or not, these pics are half decent considering the crappy phone they were taken with.

...and I guess if I lose some, they'll get eaten, right?

Thanks for looking :good:

Then they die they turn pink/white, and are very easy to see.

You'll know if they die.

I never knew they turned pink when they died - I lost several (during a house move) and thought there had been a heating problem because of the pinkness (like cooked prawn turning pink) so I bought a new heater in case lol.

DOH!

Actually, theya rent bad, especially because ghost shrimp are see through. I think you can see him fine. Good job,a dn would love to see pics of the other ones as well.

I'll see what I can do. I'm really limited to what I can do with my camera phone as far as quality goes. It seems like I need to be really close to smaller fish and such to get a decent picture. The white balance settings aren't that great either. I had a couple of pics of the new shrimp when they were acclimating, but they too were crap. It looked like I was floating a bag of rice in my tank. Lol.

Maybe I can borrow a friends camera. Then I can finally upload some pics of all my tanks as well. My FTS of my tanks are either to washed out or bad quality.

Right after I read the last post, I went and tried counting how many I had left. So far, I've been able to count five of them (including Gary, he's the biggest of all of them). They all seem to be in different places too. They don't hang out together. Maybe that's because they are still new. I know what they look like when they're dead and I don't see any dead ones in the sand. However, my cories could've got to them in the night and I wouldn't notice.

I thought Gary was dead in my 20g for about three months whenl I noticed one day a 'shrimp skeleton' in the filter intake. I thought he was a goner. Until one day, I noticed him swimming about. He must of molted?

So what I'm thinking is maybe it will take a couple of weeks for the rest of them to come around. Hopefully. Does anyone know if cories eat these things? I also failed to mention in my first post that I have a male dwarf gourami in this tank. He's never seemed to bother anything in my tank - he just cruises around. Again, if they get eaten, I've only lost a dollar on them.

Thanks for the replies,

BobRoss :good:

*edited to add question*

I also have three ghost shrimp in my five gallon. Currently running an aqua-tech 5-15 filter on it. Does anyone know if ghost shrimp like lots of current?? This filter puts off a pretty good current for the small tank its on and so far, the shrimp have been just hanging around on the bottom.

I need to think of way to reduce the flow on it since it seems too strong to me. I can watch an air bubble get blown around in the water column and get sucked by the filter intake( like a full rotation, if that makes sense). I was gonna put a foam prefilter on the the intake but I read somewhere that it can put pressure on the motor in the long run. I can't think of any other way of slowing it down other wise. Any input on this?

Thanks again
