PrincessCoral (my granddaughter) currently has an internal fluval filter in the juwel 180, I would like to replace it with an external but dont have loads of money - any ideas guys, I'm happy to buy second hand and can wait a while for the right one to come along but I just dont know what to be looking for

I would go for a fluval 405 there great filters IMO. They are quite expensive brand new but you can pick them up fairly cheap second hand.

Eheim classic 2217 simple filters about £80 if you shop around. Make sure you get taps with the filter when i was looking for mine i realised that some stockist charged the same price for taps and with out taps. Heres one i found after a quick search My link

Thanks, do I really need one that big? And what about noise levels, is it quiet?

You could get the 2215 its entirely up to you but the price difference is like £10-15. Only time i hear noise is when i first prime it if air is trapped but that soon goes with a wiggle, have a read up on the turnovers if you know you wont be upgrading anytime soon go for the smaller models and save money.

Ive found a second hand one that has been used for 18 months, £48 including postage - what do you think?

ps oh no, just checked, its £40 to include postage?

Is there any reason not to buy a second hand one? Must admit would rather buy second hand good quality than cheaper, less quality

All pond solutions 1000lph or maybe a 1400lph canister filters...they are well priced I am am happy with my 1000lph on a 125L tank, others on here also use them and are jhappy. The 1000lph costs £50 and comes with all the media

True they are a little flimsy compared to say a Ehiem but you get what you pay for...but like I said the 1000lph is working a treat for me

I am also running 2 x tetratec ex1200 on a 5ft tank, I think the tetratecs are good too and range from very small sizes up
