On monday before I went out of town the temp in my 2.5g was 78 because the light on the tank raised the temp as well as the warm room but when I came back with the tank light being off for 2 days it was 70 I'm not sure if the temp went down gradually or went down fast so could this hurt my bettas in time?

I'd imagine it went down gradually. And 8 degrees F is about the same as 4 C. Roughly. Over two days that's 2 C each day. (Sorry I work in Celsius). It's a fair swing but if it only happens once in a while not a big problem. :)
Hugs,
P.

Ok good. Now I have a question about the betta in my 1g, latley he has be alittle slugish and sits on the bottom more than he used to. What may be wrong with him? Also somehow while I was out of town he managed to spilt his bottom fin completly down the middle how could he do this since I thought they could only do it when they flare to much?

If you think about it....the temp flucuates like that in ponds and rivers when it goes from daytime to nighttime...so I'd imagine it can't hurt them "too" awful bad..unless you just have a frail betta.

It doesn't take long for a beta with an internal infection to damage their fins..I've had one that was in full color, with no signs of illness, be fine when I left one night, and when I came in the next morning he looked like someone had burned off al his fins (he was in a locked room btw, no one could have touched him). SO it's possible...you shoudl treat him for something, not just let him be.

70 is a tad too cold for these fish sometimes, being cold can make them sluggish, might wanna add a heater if they are getting that low.

(and please take that out of your sig..that's embarrassing. If you'd done what was asked of you in the first place...nothing would have been said to you..I sent you a PM explaining.)
