Hi ,my ph has gone wild from 7.6,down to 6.6,last week i bought a plant already established in a pets at home tank,i wonder if they`d treated the tank with snail treatment and the copper had raised the ph and killed my shrimp ,please give advice?

Dont forgot the water we drink is modified for us to drink in PH, to get a true value of your tap water test at after a full 24hours when gas's are gone. My ph is 7.2 from the tap and settles to 6.5 in tank after a week

Copper wont reduce the PH, Copper will kill shrimp however, the PH change wont, and it is likely to be the bogwood causing the drop.

in the quote mate

The part in red? If so that is a reference to the effect of a gradual PH change on shrimp, it wont kill them unless it happens over a period of a few minutes.

The only way the PH of tap water would be relevant is if the tank water was tested directly after a water change, where the carbonic acids in tap water would affect the results, after a few hours however the PH will have come back up to normal levels as the CO2 will have dissipated via gaseous exchange.

It is likely to be the humic acid formed a result of the tannins dissolving into the water that is causing a PH decrease.
