I have a "female" betta (Kahlua) I mean she looks like a girl, has an ovipositor, is chubby (looks eggy) but my other girl in the tank (margarita) always follows her around. Kahlua will flare at margarita and margarita instantly bars up. Kahlua flares at boys, but never get bars, and she occasionally builds small bubblenests in the tank. Any possibility she could be a boy, or do I have just have lesbian bettas (sorry if thats offensive)

Flaring is normal behavior for females too, they just don't have big beards like the males do and most aren't nearly as aggressive. Also, vertical stripes aren't just a sign that a female wants to spawn but also is a sign of dominance.

even more, i had males which showed vertical lines...

can you share a picture? maybe we can give our opinion if we see her :)
