I've just read skimpy's article on internal bacteria
I have 2 fish, one Ram and one platy that have been darkening in colour, my Ram (Bolivian) is now looking very unwell, and not feeding, the platy has been darkening for a while, and i thought that it may have been due to the fact i had to do white spot treatment about a fortnight ago, however the platy also has its fins clamped, but is still eating.

i have some med i could use, but i fear it may be a bit late for the Ram, has anyone any experience of this darkening, is it likely to be internal bacteria, ????? if so i will get on and dose.
I have alreday done an extra water change, hoping that would help, but no joy.

Can you post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, yes darkening in colour can be an indicaion of a bacterial infection, if water quality is good and there is no med in the tank.

hi,
I have lost the platy today. I decided to dose yesterday with 7ml of aniti internal bacteria (interpet i think it is)
I'm sorry I had included my tank parameters.
I have not used any nitrite kits myself, as I have it checked at the local aquatic store, who i have always gone to. I'm sorry i do not know what the kH & gH is, (i will go look it up)
My tank is 8 month sold.

Tank size: 70l
pH: n/k
ammonia: n/k
nitrite: n/k
nitrate:n/k
kH:
gH:
tank temp: 27

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): darkening in colour, loss of appetite, inactive, remaining at tank bottom mostly.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 25% each week, Saturday did a 50% change however

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: 3 caps of Bio added with each change
I had an outbreak of Ich after the tetras a few weeks ago and did a course of Protozin, whitespot all treated sucessfully

Tank inhabitants: 5 corys, 2 dutch rams, 2 bolivian rams, 2 guppies, 2 platies (lost 1 other today)
1 cardinal, 4 black tetras, 1 Plec,

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):
last additions were 4 tetras, 4 weeks ago, & 1 new platy a week ago.

Exposure to chemicals:

i've read up about the water hardness.
I'm due to pop to the shop tmw, do you think it is worth while buying testing kits? the shop are happy to the ammonnia and nitrite tests for free?

i did look before but there are various kits, any ideas?

Ok good luck, think youv'e done the right thing addding the med.

Where can I read this article?

xenomorph, to read the article do the following -

goto Tropical fish emergencies,
then at top of page look through Topic title
then goto the pinned artilcle called - Advice take it or leave it
read that article, there is a list, click on Here is a list of fish diseases

it will open you a new window, there are articles there on various diseases, this was where I read up on Internal bacteria.
