Could I Use Sand?

hey so i have a 5 gallon tank right now with a few guppies in it and im ready to upgrade
i was thinking maybe a 14 gallon

Can make the bottom sand insted of gravel?
and if so. how do you clean the sand?

wouldnt a gravel vacuum just suck it all up with the water?

You have to rinse the sand until water runs clear.

Can take a while but well worth it

You can use a gravel vac, apparently you wave it around above the sand at just the right height, it'll suck up from the surface, apparently after a while you get used to it.
