It's a 30 gallon planted tank. Current inhabitants are: 8 cories, 10 black neon tetras, 4 neon tetras, 3 honey gourami and 1 african dwarf frog.

hi, i have one female in my 240 litre community, she has been there for approx 4 months with no problems.
tank mates are rosy tetras, rasboras, bala shark, danios & chinese algae eaters.
however, as with male bettas it depends on the temprament of the fish!!

Yes, i dont see why not. Your current stocking of fish seem fine. :good:

If you have a tank you could move him to if it doesn't work, I'd be tempted to try a male.

I was told that since honey gourami are in the labyrinth category, like bettas, they shouldn't be together in the same tank- Might cause aggression. But I've never personally tried it.

Normally fine, but watch out.

My girls are fine with my gourami, I've not had any trouble previosuly ither, but there have been occasions where people have found that male bettas in particular do not get on with gouramis. Girls with their short fins do seem to simply become part of the crowd and gaggle in with everyone else IME.

I'd say it's pretty safe to add the female, but try to have a spare 5 gal tank or storage tub for her in the unlikely event it doesn't work out.

Is the tank well planted? If not then I'd suggest getting a few bunches of real or silk plants so she has a safe place to hide at first ( the others will probably love it too ) . She'll start coming out more after she's settled. One of mine still hides a lot, but comes out to feed, whereas my most recent girl is out and about all day. :good:

It is a very well planted tank, and i DO have a spare tank, though it is only 2 1/2 gallons. Still, it could work temporarily if i got in a pinch. I think i'm going to try it. Thanks for the feed back.

it can work.

My sister had to take one of my aggressive females and put her in the community, and it works.

I have also heard mixed reviews on gouramis, I think it's all trial and error in this hobby

I picked up a female yesterday. So far, so good. The male honey gourami was very interested in her and touched her all over with his feelers (I think it's so cute how they do that) trying to figure out what and who she was. Then he left her alone. hopefully things stay good!

My male gourami hugs my male betta, and he was a bit shocked and hid, but then he found a platy and she didn't mind, but im sure the female gourami was jealous
