Before you think im mad, here me out lol.

this saturday im picking up my new tank and ive arranged people to help me get it here and a truck to pick it up etc.

trouble is i jus found out i cant get the filters till monday and i need to get the new tank in and setup on saturday.

id only be putting a 5" oscar in it and id do daily water changes. would he be ok?

i could put a small filter in but its for about a 30 gallon tank and my new ones about 180 i think.

I wouldn't risk it, I have no science whatsoever to back this up, sure someone else will give a proper explanation. But personally I would leave him where he is until the filters in and matured

Biologically you won't be missing anything. The bacteria won't be built up in 2 days anyway. You would be missing out on mechanical filtration though but that isn't a problem. I've gone two weeks without mechanical filtration while medicating the tank for ick (the filter floss and charcoal are together on the same cartridge on my filter which is a Pengiun 200).

So I would think 2 days won't be a problem.

new tank is going where his tank is thats the problem.

thats what i thought cos im sure i read there wasnt anything good in the water anyway so aslong as i did the work of the filter with water changes then it should be ok?

ill stick some of the substrate in from his tank so that will help a little.

no other tank u could put him in temporarily?

how about getting a tank divider and sectioning a bit off another tank for him to go in, granted it's not ideal, but for a day or so until you've a filter running it probably wouldn't do any harm :)

i think id need a sheet of metal lol.

strong lil buggers and i think my community tank which is the only other tank hed have enough room in once divided would look pretty damn tasty too him so hed be keen to get in.

hmmmm.

ha ha aye would have to be pretty strong to hold him. Something to consider anyway.

actually just had a look at your tanks on your profile, why not put a divider in your community and put the stuff from the 20g hex in there, then put your oscar in the hex for a day or two :)

well i thought about that but is it not too small?

i kno they get moody sometimes if there unhappy.

hes jus coming out too. he wont eat unless he has to jump for it lol. jus ignore everything else.

well, when i say jump, he comes half way out.

it is too small as a long term solution, for a day or two I don't think it'd be a problem.

But someone did say they reckon it'd be OK without the filtration, so maybe do that, like I said I only say no cos I don't think I would. No idea if it's actually OK or not!

ha ha yeah I never believe it until a few people back it up. Never know when you might get a retard like me telling u some rubbish

lets say great minds think alike n leave it at that!!!

It should be okay.:

Reasoning behind my thinking:

Betta tanks 1-5 gallon tanks, often go un-filtered with frequent water changes because the fish don't like current.

If its okay to do it in a Betta tank, why not a larger tank, so long as you're changing water? (I'd say 10-25% changes myself, since a tank that big it would take the amonia and nitrates a day or two to build up if theres only going to be one fish.

The only potential problem I see here is once you -do- get the filters, you'll be cycling the tank with your fish In it, and I've read that this is harder than cycling it without fish?

Only other thought, if its going where your old tank was, I hope you got or are getting a new stand with it, since the other stand would be a tad too small. :hyper:
