Just wondering if its alright to keep a couple of discus in my 35 gallon?

Theres 15 neons in there at the moment and 6 bronze cories and 1 BN about to go in and was wondering if its possible to keep 2 discus in there with them and thats it?

Have done a fair bit of reading about them and seen that it should be 1 discus per 10 gallon so I might be a little overstocked won't I?

I've got 2 hang on filters filtering the tank so its overfiltered sorta thing and all my readings are perfect and I will be prepared to do a couple of water changes weekly so if all those are met is it possible to keep 2 in there?

In all honesty I think its a little small for discus, whilst they need 10g each, I dont think 35g is large enough for swimming space.

I am no expert on discus though, so others may advise differently.

Not sure the neons would stand much chance with full grown discus either. And I believe, although again need clarification that BN plecs have been known to suck on the side of discus.

Unfortunately no, you cannot keep 2 Discus in a 35 gallon. Yes, the rule of thumb is 1 Discus per gallon, but keep in mind you want a minimum of 5 Discus (sometimes four will work.) This would require approx. a 50 gallon tank.

1 discus per 10gallons i think u mean lol

and this is a basic rule u dont nescerally need a 50gallon tank for 5 discus

Well thats no good then  So theres no possible way of keeping them in a 35 gallon?

Yes that's what I meant hahah. It is more a rule for beginners, or a rule to follow if you want to play it safe, in a 50 gallon I wouldn't do more then 6 fish though.

Gurglar, if you got a breeding pair (not two, a pair) then you could keep them in a 35 gallon. I guess you might be able to do four, not sure if I would recommend it, because there's a chance for things to go wrong.

The min tank height for Discus should be 18". A 48"x18"x15" is the smallest you should go for a group.

A 35 is only good for a bonded breeding pair and you'd not want to keep them in there all their lives. (not any two fish...) It could also be a temporary home for a group... However please don't buy any with intentions of upgrading later.

Wait until you know more about the fish and can provide the correct home for them.
