well after closer inspection both my kribs are males and both my bolivian rams are males

i really wanna start breeding something so what should i do? / of the kribs is much more colorful then the other and is more dominant, it makes the other one hide most of the time, which one should i give back?

also im not sure i can do that process of buying 5-6 rams and lettign them pair up and t5hen taking the rest back, any other ideas in terms of a breeding pair?

everyone tells me that 35g long isnt enough for 2 pairs but my tank is a forest so ill take my chances and hopefully it will all fall into place

I tryed to do the same. To give u good advice imo i would give back the cribs and buy 3 more rams. I doubt a tank that size would not be able to hold 2 pairs excpecially if it is heavily vegitated. Kribs i have learned are much more agrresive to other fish in the tank and there fellow species. This is through my own experience. Your bound to have a female out of buying 3 more rams and if your lucky you will have at least 2 females in there and just wait till they pair off. Its what i would do. Never buying kribs again. And if your still gonna go for the kribs i would go for the more ressesive one. Just becuase I wouldn't stand to see what a strong dominant male would do to a female.

I agree with the above - two pairs could work but kribs are the wrong choice because of their high aggression levels. Apsitogramma would be a better tankmate for your Rams. I also agree that you can try removing one male and then getting a couple of females in hopes that one will work as a pair (3 females would be better to distribute aggression though). This process can often work too.

Well, each persons experience differs, and I am going to disagree with the 2 previous replies. Yes, kribs can be mildly aggressive at spawning time, bur no more than any other dwarf cichlid.

My kribs are currently spawning in a community tank, with plenty of different sized tank mates, and not one has been harmed. There has been a little chasing here and there, but that is to be expected.

These guys spawned several weeks back, and the fry are growing nicely and must be jsut under a centimeter now. I think there is about 30 of them.

Their tank mates are cory cats, zebra loaches, khuli loaches, pencil fish, and a couple of pygmy gouramis.

However, I did have some rams in there with them for a short time, which did take a beating for the little time they were in. I also had some curviceps in there temporarily, which took a beating. So I would not mix the 2 kinds. Either go with the kribs or the bolivians.

Kribs are probably easier to breed, although I have never had bolivians, so not sure if they pose a challenge.

Hello, it sounds like you agree with us that kribs are not wise tankmates for those rams

Yes, I do agree with you that they are not good tank mates. What I was disagreeing about was the kribs being incredibly aggressive.

Also-IMO-If you stick in a mature boy and girl ram, they WILL pair up. Just takes until the girl is ready to breed, and after that they stay together:)

IMO rams, apistiogram's and kribs are best kept on there own as each will become aggressive during breeding time, and at any other times in my experience. ( but this always differs from person to person)

Apistios and kribs are easy to breed, so if its a first time project, getting rid of the rams and the weaker male krib and exchanging them for a female krib might be the best option.

Rams cam be hard to breed, as a lot will only breed in certain water conditions, usually soft acidic water with a low TDS reading but there's always exceptions.
