Could I Add Some Corys?

I saw guapore corys, Corydoras guapore and fell in love with them. Could I add shoal of them to my tank?

Tank is 33 us gallons = 128 liters and planted.
pH is about 7 and GH about 8 dGH. Temperature is 23-24C = about 74F.
NO2 is 0 and so is NO3. Plants use all nitrate.
I change 40-50% of water every week.

Fishes:
15x lambchop rasboras
1x 8cm (3 inches) adult bristlenose female
4x Gastromyzon loach

Since nitrate is 0, I think I can safely add more fish but will bottom level of the tank be too full. Guapore corys aren't actually bottom dwellers but anyway.

I would say yes, but i have to say hillstream loaches/Gastromyzon loaches are cold water fish rather than tropical ones- im not sure how long you have had yours but have heard they only usually last a couple of months in tropical setups. Anyways, don't know an aweful lot on rasboras but i would say your tank has the space for say 4 or so corys(by the way they are bottom dwellers ) .

I've had them about 2 years now. They like cool water but high oxygen level is far more important for them than cold water.

Anyways, don't know an aweful lot on rasboras

Here's some info about them. Quite like harleguin rasboras but smaller and more red.

I would like to take a proper shoal, like 8 at least. I hate to keep fishes in too small groups. Guapore corys are quite shy so that's why it's also important. Guapore corys are swimming corys like Corydoras habrosus and Corydoras pygmaeus.

And I forgot one fish (how could I). I have one red whiptail cat too.

I am not commenting regarding the fish and if they will "work" together (dont know loaches) but nitrate is never at zero unless the tank is 1-5 days old. Sorry if I am to picky but I am a scientist and your nitrate is likely <2ppm not zero. Perhaps it is lower than your test can detect but not zero....I feel that a 50% change is a bit much each week, but certainly this depends on how close the new water you use (tap water?) is in water chemistry to your tank water....

I'm intrested to hear more. Can you explain why is that? Or have some link? Why can't the plants use all nitrate?

Very same. And I'm trying to keep it that way by doing lots of water changes. That way water chemistry does not change and fishes stress less. We are lucky to have top quality water here in Finland. So there are not side effects by doing this. It's very common here in Finland to change even 70% of water. And about 50% a week is a quide line here.

I wouldn't worry about the nitrate. As long as the nitrite stays at 0, and your nitrate doesn't rise very high, all is well.

If your tank is fully cycled, then I would says yes to the cories. I think they would be great for your tank. I saw some skunk cories at the lfs th eother day for the first time. Unfortunately they only had 2 - and one of those two were dead

I saw the price of guapore corys and maybe I can't afford to take a shoal. It would cost about 100$. So maybe not.

Maybe I try to find some nice otos... Or something. Ideas?

C. guapore are scarce here in the US, and expensive too. They are worth getting however, if you can afford them and want something unusual for your tank. C. caudimaculatus are similar in appearance, but are bigger, and if you can find them, they would be good too.

Otos would love your beautiful planted tank.

I found new love: croaking gouramys, Trichopsis vittata. But I don't think I can get any gouramy to this tank because of Gastromyzons = strong current.

Bottom is almost full. I can't afford swimming corys. I don't want other shoaling tetra/barb etc. and I can't take gouramys. Whats left. Cichlids? Anything else?

Have you thought about wild bettas? My imbellis take the current in my tank pretty well. I like the croaking gouramis too. Oh, by the way, really love that snail taxi picture. It left me in stitches, and I apologize for writing obnoxious French comments below it. It still cracks me up.

I would love to have wild bettas. But I've never seen one in Finland. Maybe I could have some next summer if I start to beg now for someone to import them. In winter I don't have much chance to get new fishes because it's not easy bring them in country because of the weather. It's too cold.

I'm glad you liked the taxi picture. I almost didn't post it because I didn't think it was that good.

It's a shame you can't get the Trichopsis vittata, they are great fish.

Great pictures. Now I want then even more. But I'm afraid my filtration is too strong for them to be happy. I already have Trichopsis schalleri in other tank. Maybe I have to settle to them for now... They are very nice too.
