Well recently I sctubbed all the algae off my glass and it made my water cloudy, This was like 2 weeks ago and it's still cloudy. I was told it was Green Algae and I did what they told me to do but it ain't helping. There has been no change since they told me which was close to 4 days ago.

Any tips on getting rid of it please, I don't mind spending a couple of bucks to fix it.

Also I have 2 lights on a 180L tank. They are 30w Gro Lux tubes. I have them going for 11 hours a day and get a tiny bit of sunlight in the arvo on the tank.
Is that too long to have my lights going?

I did the water changes as said but made no difference. Whata bout cleaning my filter?
I have a Via Aqua 230 Professional. I don't have many fishies either, no where near full.

I have around 7 plants in my tank aswell.

Pleas help, my tank looks ugly. :-(

PS: Would 2 Philips T5's be ok for my tank?

This is a picture of what my tank looks like with this "Green Algae"

Thanks

Will that help much?

I havn't tried it to answer your question.

Adding activated carbon to your filter may help.
Also try a 24hr blackout.
that is wrap the tank so that no light can enter it and turn off the tank lights too. Don't feed or peek during this 24hr period, it must stay in total darkness.

I have covered my tank now with 2 sheets, all sides are covered so no light can get in.
I have put some carbon in a stocking and put it in my filter.
I hope this helps my tank. :)

Ok I did the blackout at 5pm, so I should uncover it at 5pm.
  • Will this make a big change to my tank?
Should I leave it covered for more then 24 hours?
Should I do anything after uncovering it like a water change?
For small treopical fish what would be the best food for them?
Also would 2 T5 Philips Tubes be too much and make the algae come back?
I have a 180 litre tank with 2 Gro-Lux lights on it, is that too much?
Thanks, and sorry about all the questions. :*)

I'll be removing the sheets soon, it will have been exactly 24 hours with sheets on and about 25 hours with carbon in. I have not peaked in there once. :)

Can this harm my fish or anything?
Cause I had a dead pakistani loach before I put the sheets and carbon in, I dont know why or how it died.

This shouldn't harm the fish but expect them to be pale and sleepy for a bit.

Good luck.

Lol ok thanks dude, I was suspecting they would be pale. But they are soo inactive all the time, like the Pakistani Loaches at the shop are hyper active, mine after about 2 weeks of having them just find a place to sit, and hardly even move around... :(

PS: 20 minutes until sheets are off. :hyper:

Pakistanis at the shop = :hyper:
Mine Pakistanis = :zz

Surprised no one asked the stats of the tank. Nitrites ammonia, nitrates etc.
You said there was a dead fish but you dont know why....check the stats, always check the stats.
High ammonia can cause cloudy water and help kill fish. Plus nitrates help feed the algee.
