One of my congo tetra was on deaths door but seems to made a recovery looking at him from the side i see he has little white patchs on him like cotton wool. I finding it hard to determine netween ich and some sort of fungus. Any how i have ich & fungus tretment in the house but onlt does 200L tanks this new one is 350L. Should i put the meds in anyway and hope for the best? if i do dose will it effect the other in any way as they all seem fine?

A picture would help. But "cotton wool" does not sound like ich which in its visible form looks like salt grains.

I did try for a pic but those congo are bloody fast lol, hmm now you metion it salt grains might be the desciption, maybe i should just dose the tank anyway can it weaken them against it if it not ich thought?

I wouldn't treat them with anything until you know what it is for sure. If the spots are at al fluffy or ill defined it's probably fungus; whitespot spots are very sharply edged and 'crisp' looking.

And get some more meds to treat your whole tank; adding an underdose (unless you have scalesess fish like laoches) is always posing a risk of the parasite of bacteria becoming immune to the mds; and you don't want that happening!

Neither fungus or whitespot will kill off healthy fish in one or two days; just keep the water quality up (and possibly put the temp up a degree or two) until you can get the proper amount of the right med :good:

Thanks flutter "parasite of bacteria becoming immune to the mds" thats the bit i was worried about....if i had to put money on the white bits are more fluffy then sharp so again maybe a fungus the tank sits at 24.5c night time and 25.5c day time due to the lights. The meds state half dose for scaless fish, do cory's sterbai have scales's lol me and wife are looking at thinking they dont be rather look stuid on here then dose wrong :)

EDIT: ok a quick google says they have plates instead of scales and dont like salt or meds so half dose it is then i guess....now im a little scared :(

could you not set up a make shift tank in a bucket or platic container and move just the fish in you need to medicate?
i bought a nano tank for £15 off ebay just for such a use :)

well that and new fish observations before entering the main tank, as last time i introdced new fish to my main tank i got whitespot :(

I have a spare tank but if its itch i read that the whole tank needs meds as the parasite lives in the water looking for a host, there are so mnay types of fungus out there....ill check him when i get homew from work if no better ill go with some half doses for 4 days
