Help me, please.

We bought some frogs to replace one that had died and discovered too late that one was already sick. The next day both were dead [our first is still alive and growing bigger every day]. The next morning, however, our betta, which lived in the same tank, had a little white mustache.

We quarantined the betta in a 2.5 gallon hospital tank and have been medicating him with a treatment of Maracyn and Maracyn II, as well as antibacterial Melafix and some extra salts [as a note, there is very little light, the room is shaded and curtained, and there is no filter in the tank]. We made the mistake of changing the water 100% for the first two days [having misread the directions, I suppose]. However, once we realized we were trying build up the dosage in the water over time, we stopped. It has been four days since and he is not better. He won't eat, just floats near the top. He still has a little "cotton" on his upper lip and the lip has almost entirely rotted off.

As I understand, after 5 days you change the water and start the treatment again. But I wonder: it has been almost a week since the betta has eaten, and while he is getting slowly more active [and tipping over less], is there any chance that he will live, and recover fully? Do lips grow back? Should I continue with the second treatment cycle after changing the water? Or should I keep the water as is and just keep adding the meds?

I am asking for advice on how to continue.

if he is getting more active i'm assuming thats a good sign, i had a problem with this with my female bettas, it hit hard and fast killing 3 within 4 hours  it started rotting there face away and there was nothing i could do except remove them to stop it spreading further which thankfully it didn't.

i would continue the treatment and see how he goes, a healthy betta can go over 2 weeks without food, all the best :good:
