I have a 55 gallon tropical tank with angels, rasboras, mollies, a plec, and a redtailedshark. The shark doesnt bother anyone, but i seem to have a problem with keeping corys alive. any ideas on why this is, and an alternative to corys that i can use? I dont want to risk more fish....I feel bad that i couldnt keep them alive as it is..

My water params are fine....i cant figure out what went wrong...

please help!

what do you feed the corys?

also whats the temp i think some corys struggle at higher temps?

o and what type of corys, some i find a pita to keep/

I was feeding them those sinking shrimp pellets, had zuccini in there, bloodworms and brineshrimp on alternating days. Let me go get my log for my water stats...ammonia was 0, ph 7.4, nitrite .25 nitrate 0...

edit...temp is at 78 F, they were albino corys

Nitrite is bad and is probably part of the problem. Nitrite should always be zero, if you have a nitrite reading it mean that the tank was cycling or going through a mini-cycle. Nitrite is toxic to fish, .25ppm of nitrite is going to stress all of the fish out. And can cause the deaths of some of the more sensitive species.

ahh lol....i was told that low of a level wasnt bad....so that was it, huh? Good thing today is my WC day -_-
Thanks for the help...at least now i know

how long has nitrite been steady at 0.25ppm for?

there's two reasons you'd be getting nitrite, either the tank isn;t fully cycled in which case it's just a case of regular (daily) water changes to keep it at 0 and after a few weeks at this level it should drop down to 0 and remain there.

If it's been steady at 0.25ppm for some time then it indicates either that the filter is underperforming for the tank size/stock or that the maintenance routine is not up to scratch.
