Corys For A Begginer

Can anyone recommend a type of corys that will be good in a community tank, when I get my tank i'm going to cycle it using fish (probably danios) and when it's done im certain I want to get some corys, and probably some shrimp, it will be a tank with a decent filter, heater and lighting, i'll be using sand as a substrate and I will be using a small amount of real plants and some silk plants too. I will also have nice caves, and I plan to put an airstone in but i'm not sure it will be needed or not.

Oh sorry, I forgot to tell you, it's a 10UK Gallon, and I want to keep it in a shoal of 3. I'm cloning the filter now, so I don't need to use fish.

Most of the smaller corys would be excellent for you, (except for C. pandas) depending on the other fish you will be keeping with them. Now that you won't be cycling with the danios, what else do you think you will put in?

I'm just planning on neons, and maybe some shrimp. Not too sure what else, (shoal of 6 neons and 3 corys). I know I ask everyone, but could you recommend a suitable, non-agressive, easy to maintain, and inexpensive fish that I may be able to put with them? (I'm not sure what corys i'll be getting, can't remember whats in my LFS).

Hi Neal

How about adding a platy or two? They are bright and active enough to be considered centerpiece fish in a small tank.

C. metae (bandits) and C. trilineatus (usually mislabeled as C. julli) are two small corys that are often found in the lfs and either would do well for you. Of course, bronze or albino C. aeneus are good too, but get a little bigger.

From what i've heard, platys breed alot, so it would be a challenge and i'd have nowhere to put the babies, the only way I could get around that is by putting 2 females (vice versa) together.
