Question one :In tank one I have a Betta and 3 large platy's and two baby platys about 5 month I guess.
6cm for Betta
5x6cm for platy's fully grown
36cm in a 31 gallon.

I know the inch rule but unsure of swimming movement and territory space.

I want to add corydoras but told they need to be kept in groups of 6.

If it is possible what type of corydors must I get? I think lfs has albinos.

Tank 2
I have 2 Oscars until they fight.
Would like a plec. Can bristle nose plecs go in with these or what could?
This is a Rio 400

Tank 3
I have 8 neon tetra's in an 11 Gallon.
Would tank one be better swapped with tank 3 with no corydoras and tank one have more compatable fish with neons .

tank 1 has betta and platys ok and mybe add corydoras
tank 3 has neon tetras which are a bit boring on their own and don't really swim. They adored the rio 400 before however oscrs needed the biggest tank.

Any suggestions???

aslong as you dont go for Adolfi Corys (i love these) because they can grow up to 4" you should be fine.
yes you need 6, i only have 5 at the mo because i got 6 yesterday and sadly the trip was to stressfull for the youngest.
pandas and great at 2" but need more cre than others, 2 water changes weekly (each about 20%) and a very fine substerate like sand although this is not esentual.

Im going to ignore the fact you've got a betta in there because personlly I think keeping them in a community is a bad idea. As far as cories go ive got 4 in a 20g and wouldnt hessitate to get another 2 :)

you should definetly get another 2, they will be more active.
im getting 3 more so then i will have 8! go corys!!

Probably will do mate :) they are a little timid still atm, think its a concideration for the new year (once damn xmas expenses are out of the way).

I have 7 panda corys and 12 pygmy corys in my 29 gallon. You should be fine with 8. I've found that corys don't add a whole lot to the bioload and they only take up the bottom of the tank, so other fish have some room to swim around. Believe me, if I included my corys in inch-per rule in my tank, it would not be a pretty statistic... :X

As for tank 3, you could add some corys in there too, but fewer than tank 1 because it's smaller. I don't really understand your question about it, so I'll just say this. ^^

Please tell me more why they should be kept alone? Have rice puddles no other fish etc and if they were bred in a community tank from birth why would you isolate them? I do not want to breed so will not be buying female. I could buy nother tank for him but he looked so lonely alone. He is still the most affectionte but since he comes to meet me so do the platties.

I did buy 6 cory's and so far I think these these are my type of fish they are so peaceful even when chsing one another they just kinda say hi to each other its like they are all so content immediately. Definately look like they will not harm Betta either.

SJ2K probably doesn't like them in communities because they are oddly tempered. Sometimes, they'll be peaceful, and sometimes they'll rip a fish to shreds. I had a betta in a community but had to community because I thought he was calm until I found a guppy hanging on to dear life with his fins gone. But if your betta hasn't been mischievious for a few months, you may be lucky and have a nice one. :)

Its more that bettas get picked on in communities because of their silly finnage. The Bettas you see for sale these days (with the exception of the wild types) are far different from the wild fish found in rice paddies and are the result of hundreds of years of selective breeding which has left them as a fancy long finned fish that is easily picked on and has trouble surviving in a community tank setting.

CFC.. such a great lover of bettas... silly finnage.. heheh

Squid

He's got a point though, completly unatural and only that way so betta keepers can see them as cute

I wouldnt keep a betta and if I did id keep it alone, they may come accross other fish in the wild but they'd certainly have more then 20g to escape in.

okay but will have to have a small tank to sit on bedside table. How small can I go ? It will need to go in daughters room. I have neons in my tank in bedroom and they don't go with platys where he is at moment and surprise surprise not with oscars. He ws bought in a tank with plty's. But my daughter likes him anyways .
