Jeez . . . bonified cory nut, and I know it. It's not my fault there's a buy 3 get 1 free sale!!!! Whatever . . . I now have 4 corydoras barbatus. Pretty good price too, $4.50 each. Anyway, they're being acclimated to my 10 gallon quarentine tank right now. They'll be alone in there for a while. I'll get some photos for you guys soon.

i dont find what is so good about cory's...
As well as being effective at sifting through sand, cories have remarkable personalities and are fascinating to watch as they go about their business.

They are happiest and most active in groups, so maybe you have only seen ones on their own.

Or maybe he doesn't like cute . . . not that c. barbatus is that cute . . .

Hi tear-scar :)

When I went looking for some information to post here, I just found out that the lovely fish formerly known as C. barbatus is now known as Scleromystax barbatus. Here's a nice picture of it:

Here's a link to the thumbnail at Planet Catfish:

One thing you might want to know is that the males of this species are territorial, unlike other corydoras. When breeding, they can cause serious harm and possibly death to other males. They are also large for corys.

I do believe that these fish originate from two different areas, but do not know if the name change was for fish from both places, or when it came about. Please bear with me and I will give you a better answer as soon as I find out what is going on.

Yeah, I heard there may be cause for concern. Thanx for the info inchworm. Anyway, from the photo comparisons, I'd say it looks like I have 4 females. They're still juveniles now though, so who knows? :S

Anyway, right now they're peaceful, and since none of mine have the dark head with band, I'm going to assume they're all female for now. If I see some behavior or color changes, I'll separate any males I might have.
