I have a panda cory that's suffering from something. Half the time it would stay completely still, to the point where it looks dead, either lying right-side-up, upside-down or sideways. The other half, it's swimming all over place while spinning around in a spiral. It no longer sticks with the other cories. I can't really spot much different with it physically from the other cories, but it does seem to be slightly darker.

A few of my swordtails have been very nippy, and I've seen them take a few swipes at the cories, but the cory in question doesn't have any physical damage to it. So I doubt it's the swords' fault. Or is this a common disease I don't know about?

Water parameters are fine - ammonia and nirites at 0, nirates at 10.

Can you see any white spots? Erratic swimming and flicking is a symptom of ich. If you have a QT/hospital tank, I would put the cory in there.

Definitely no white spots.. I got a closer look at it, it doesn't just seem darker, it's also more "transparent".

Hi dizzied

Can't tell you what's wrong with your cory but What I do know is that Panda's are very susceptible to suddenley up and dieing for no apparent reason. I am finding this out the hard way. They are not very hardy at all and tend to go downhill very quickly.

Inchworm (mod in the cory section) was advising me this after 2 sudden deaths in my tank when all my water stats were fine. We lost another last night - again we do not know why. Inchworm keeps her Panda's in their own tank. I am now thinking this is a good idea. I read your other post about the swordtails taking swipes at the panda's. You need to either take them or the Panda's out as this will stress the Panda's out and you will more than likely lose them!

Sorry mate, I would at definitley at least isolate the this one for the time being anyway.

this may not be exactly what you want to hear, but the same thing was happening to one of my julii. it started early yesterday morning, and a few minutes ago i had to remove him from the tank as he was laying on his back the one moment, then rapidly swimming to the surface only to spiral down on his back crashing into rocks and plants.

sorry that i cant help, i just wanted to share :(

The sword situation has gotten a bit better, now that the cories realize that they aren't pals, they run instead of sitting there. Still, I'm planning to trade the swords in for something smaller and more peaceful once the heavy rain stops.

I did came to the conclusion that it had a swimbladder problem, since it's the only disease that sounds even remotely close to what my cory was suffering. I thought I'd get it some medicine this morning, but unfortuneately, it passed overnight.

Luckily, I don't think it's contagious, or at least none of my other fish are suffering it.

sounds like swimbladder to me, unfortunately with swimbladder by the time you see the symptoms it's nearly always too late to do anything for the fish :-(
