Ive been thinking...
and it may not matter.. ;)
but...

Ive got a Coralife compact lighting setup...

I have what they call a 50/50 bulb, (ive got 2 of em)
It's 50% 6000k and 50% Actinic 03.

I could swap em out for straight 6700k bulbs.

Since they are new, i hate to swap em out yet, but if you think it would make a big difference.....
I am battling abit of green water, but that just could be due to starting up a new tank with over 3 wpg, and getting the co2 n everything adjusted....
Plus i havent started EI yet... hopefully this week...

What are your thoughts on this one?

personally i'd remove the actinic bulb, that is not helping your green water. i know what you mean though you buy something new and want to get some use out of it... up to you. you could always enquire about a straight swap if you get on with the manager, not all stores will be helpful on that front though.

ya.... i was afraid i would hear that.. ;)
Anyways.. i contacted the place i ordered it from, http://www.marineandreef.com/ and they said no problem, that they would swap the whole setup with the correct one...

now THATS SERVICE :)

Id highly recommend these guys B)

Those lights are for growing corals in reef tanks and not really suitable planted setups, anyway glad you got it sorted that really is great service.

Id get started on EI asap, the ferts are cheap from Greg Watson particularily if you live in the US.

Ammonia or ammonium are usually at the root of green water problems, have you done anything differently to the tank recently? anyway regardless when you get rid of it you really need to be on top of the fert regime to eliminate any deficiencys.

Ya.. i figed it was more for reef tanks after looking at it closer... dern it ;)
My order with Greg should actually come in this week, which is why ill start EI this week :)
My Ammonia and Nitrite levels are at 0.
Nitrate is barley staying above 0-5.
kh is 3 with my ph at 6.4...so bout 35ppm co2
phosphate about .5
temp now moved up to 85, cause im tempted to add a Discus once all falls into place :)

So i know my green water is prob a combo of low nitrates and phosphates.....plus it started while i was gone on a 4 day camping trip in which my mom was coming by to watch the tank, and my co2 fell down to around 10pm...

BooM... green water.. heh... im sure once i get the correct lighting, start dosing, i should be good to go...

Considering my situation, i cant really complain... its not a BAD case of green water... just tinged.. :)
