Coralline Aminoacids

My xenia had stopped mulitplying and a friend gave me a substance by the name of "Coralline Aminoacid". I've been using it for a few months now and havent seen any growth in my xenia. Any comments?

I have never used this so i cant really comment on it.
However, xenia likes Iodine, are you dosing with iodine?
Xenia also likes a slightly higher nitrate level when compared to other corals so perhaps your nitrates are too low?

Lastly, lets make sure its Xenia we are talking about. Do you mean Xenia like the pulsing variety?
People are often sold star polyps by lfs by the name of xenia when its not actaully the same species at all.
Star polyps create a chitonous shell for it to retract into. when star polyps shut down for the night they retire complely behind this. Xenia however doesnt create such a shell and is always exposed to the water.

I use Coralline Aminoacids in my hard coral reef. It brings some of the colours out in the corals. I'm not sure what effect it has on xenia/starpolyps though?

my nitrates have been too low...except im really surprised that my other corals have survived...

Low nitrates are great for 99% of other corals so they would thrive. However, Xenia (pulsing xenai) likes to grow near sewage outlets so the increased nutrients are just what it needs.

Ewww, near sewage outlets really? My xenia has been in my tank for maybe 1 month. I has grown twice its original size and i need to frag it already. My nitrates test at 0, phophates .1, no test for silicates. At any rate, i am considering getting rid of this coral because it grows so darn fast.

Sewer outlets are not their natural environment of course but they do very well in the locations of these pipes

Yes they grow real fast. I loved them ot begin with and desperately wanted one. I was toldi would regret it.. Now i regret it
At least my LFS has an almost endless supply of the stuff and it does help pay for a few things i want.

edit:
Nearly forgot.. If anyone has a sump then try putting some in here. Its great at removing nitrates etc and will work very effectively alongside any other filtation in there.
