after seeing SF's and Matthews I have thought about getting one for my new 60 gallon reef. I know that as far as "reef safe" is a crap shoot, but the question I have is this. When is says to feed them aglee and such...I know you can buy the prepared stuff to clip in, but can you feed them macro algae you grow in your sump like cheato?

No, Chaeto is toxic when eaten and will not give the fish a good taste in their mouths ;). They tend to avoid eating it

Seaweed on a clip along with anything algae on the rocks and glass seems to be all mine requires in addition to the normal feeding for the tank.

When I tried adding C. Taxifolia to my tank the coral beauty would not stop uprooting and eating it (not sure if it would have any bad side effects if I let him consume the whole thing). Besides that he gets feed blended up nori regulary as it's part of my DIY fish food and pecks occasionally at the tiny patch of hair algae I have.

what about the "red gracilaria feeding algea" that you can order from drs foster and smith, they claim that fish go crazy over it. Also that if you anchor it under some rocks it will take root. is it useful as nutriet export as well?
