as the title says....
jasper is LOVING his hornwort
BUT i need to treat him with coppersafe.
Do i need to remove the plant?

Okay, screw it.
I need to get the meds in there, and I don't have the heart to take ALL the plants out, so I'm going to take half of them out and then leave the other half in.
I'm okay with the fact that the coppersafe might kill the plants that will remain in the tank, I have more.

I just need Jasper to have his little comfort zone - i'm not going to take that away from him.

HOWEVER... if someone sees any issues that the plants will cause being in w/CopperSafe and Maracyn Two, plz lemme know - (other than the plants dying, of course) - just if there's something that'll harm the fish!

Hmmm...I wish I could give you an answer. I'm sitting here with a bottle of CopperSafe, too... ready to add to the tank and wondering the same. I have a lot of plants in the tank and wondering if i should take some of them out.

Although my mind could be remembering the wrong information, I don't think copper will kill the plants. I just know that too much of it over a period of time can kill fish. Tell me how your plants are doing now that you have added the coppersafe.

Hornwort can be very sensitive to copper and medications (and temperature changes, too). All of its leafy bristles can fall off, though the stem may remain alive and regain its bristles after medications are done.

Hortwort and other plants (duckweed especially) can be good to uptake trace amounts of harmful inorganics like copper, lead, etc. from the water. But at a therapuetic dose for medication, it will overwhelm and kill some plants.

Indeed, a slight over dose is extremely harmful to plants and or fish. So be careful. And READ THE INSTRUCTIONS (no offence but too many ppl ask for advice on here but should just read the instructions) :p

Goodluck. Benny

mr miagi - of course I read the directions, silly :p - that's how I KNOW that coppersafe can kill hornwort. I ALWAYS read the directions at least 3 times before I dump anything in with my fish (I'm a super duper overprotective mother of 4 betta boys). Because of the huge number of things that have gone wrong with my bettas and I've figured out how to handle them either by reading something on them or asking for help here (when I can't figure it out myself), now I can get on the forum and help other ppl because I've already been thru what they're trying to figure out.

I'll never fault ANYONE for coming straight to this forum for help - at least they care enough about their fishes to make an attempt to help them.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had any experience w/the Coppersafe & hornwort.

So...
in response to your questions about how it worked with CopperSafe, I only used CopperSafe for 1 day as I opted to go with another med and it seems to have had no adverse affects on the plant, but as I said - it was only in the tank for one day.
