I've never been a big fan of non pl*co sucker type fish but I have really fallen for panda garras. Their antics keep me amused. I'm up to six now, three babies in my planted tank and 3 larger ones in my 4 foot cichlid tank. Heres a one of the wee ones.

T what are your water stats and setup like? Also what are you feeding? I had 3 for a couple months and am going to be getting 4 more soon. I want these guys to breed so bad. They are really cute and I love their behavior. I'm actually putting a video of them on-line right now. LOL

Well the 3 little ones are in a heavliy planted tank and they eat anything (they actually come up to the top and eat the pellets I feed my apple snails). The bigger ones are in a hodge podge cichlid setup and so far they are grazing the algae thats been growing for a while in there and also ate bloodworms and sinking granules. Both tanks are slightly soft acidic and although the temperature is a tad higher than is optimum for them they seem extremely adaptable. A high flow slightly cooler than normal river type setup is apparently best, I'm thinking about trying this at some point. I would like to breed them too. I know a guy on the loaches.com forum did so you might want to have a look there.

Great pics :).

I've seen these before and loved the look of them, but never had the cash to get a few of them. That, and because I'm not sure if they would be territorial with my SAE's...

Do you think they would eat shrimp?

Thanks for the info T.

Mine don't bother the cherry shrimp that are in their tank. But they do love to eat bits off the large chunks of shrimp I feed my eels.

Here is a video of mine.

My little ones are in a tank contianing a lot of shrimp and they dont bother them. They are kinda pushy and active though so might spook them a bit. They might fight with other similar types. I have another garra with my bigger ones (stone lapping minnow) and he chases them about a bit (he is bigger than them though).

Great vid Mikaila31, they just cant resist nibbling your hand eh, totally fearless and you can see they are related to toctor fish. Where did you get your rubber eel thingies? Never seen them for sale. Do they ever eat your fish?

The rubber eels I ran across at one of the better fish stores in a nearby metro area about a year ago. They use to be sold everywhere 10 years ago, you rarely see them anymore. Awesome creatures. They have never touched the fish. I don't think they ever would purposely eat one, but it wouldn't be too difficult for them to swallow one. That said I still get nervous sometimes when I feed them. I drop in chunks of shrimp. Those silly panda garras will all start sucking on them, then the eels come out to eat. The eels are naturally blind and those panda garras are totally fearless. They put their little 3" bodies right between the 2 foot eel and its shrimp. The eel has to push them out of it's way to grab its food. They do this time and time again. Never hurt one of the garras.

Here is a short video of me handling one of the eels. The "caecillian feeding vid" in my sig shows the eels and garras interacting. They keep up with their cute antics.

Edit: I also thought I would add, if anyone in the US is looking for this fish Frank's aquarium.com carries them for a pretty good price. They are currently out of stock, but should have more in a week.
