Would a pair of cons kill my clown loaches? I miss mine and Im thinking of getting them back. They got character. :)

Convicts are pretty aggressive. I have seen mine take on cichlids twice its size and scare them off. A lot of it would depend on the clown loachs, if they are really big it might work but not if you have a breeding pair of convicts, then anything else in the tank would be killed probably.

Anyone have experenice with this combo? Any one know if it would work or not?

although its not really recomended, they are two totally different fish,..

if the cons are breeding, and they have eggs/fry, they would possibly thrown them a beatin, but if theyre just like 2 males, i think it would be a go

Agreed....A breeding pair would not be a good idea IMO ... Also i think alot would depend on the size of tank your talking about. A single male convict can do plenty of damage all by himself thanks to their aggressive nature. I'd say a minimum of 75gal is required but i would be more comfortable doing it in a 100+ tank. HIH a little :D

Its only a 20 long. Stocking wise its ok, the clowns are small tho 1 inch. Wouldnt 2 males fight in a 20 gallon tho?

If this is just a 20 gal then i highly recommend adding nothing but the cons and keeping it as a species tank. A 20gal just isnt big enough for the aggressive nature of cons...anything kept in the tank is going to be miserable.

I would just buy the bigger tank now for the Clowns who will eventually need it anyway, and throw an Oscar in with them :p .

Sometimes money prohibits that

Well, for poor guys like me.

DB :fish:

I've heard a lot about mating convicts killing off other tankmates. I have an overstocked 125gal juvinial chiclid tank which houses two young convict parents and about 12 (12 left out of 100) convict fry. The mating pair showed EXTENSIVE territorial behavior over several different areas of the tank (because they used different areas for different phases, i.e. mating, raising fry) but we didn't hae any casualties and really nothing more than head butting contests. From what I can see in the last two weeks the Pacus just got a little extra live food (which I thought would be enough to cause war from the convicts...)

Also it's worth noting that the convicts are juvinials and this is their first time breeding.

Im not interested really in breeding just in having them. They are cool fish and I loved mine till I gave it up. The clowns are goign to be in a bigger tank this christmas. I would throw a severum and discus not an oscar. :D

ya dont have to 'try' to breed convicts... just have a male and female... those things are like ravid rabbits when it comes to breeding.

lol I know. Im interested in keeping males tho.. can 2 males fit in a 20 long? Would they hurt my clowns?

They may hurt eachother fighting over territory :) I doubt they'd touch the clowns though :)
