i'm thinking of getting convicts in my new tank, i know they are very aggressive thats kinda why i'm drawn to them. I have hurd that they should be kept in true pairs or on thier own? is this right? also what other type of cichlids will be ok to go in with them?

any help with this would be grate? :good:

Tank mates depend on the size of tank and if you keep them in a pair or not. When you have a pair of cons the aggression steps up a notch (and you have the problem of dealing with babies).
Types of cichlids that can go in with them are anything that can hold their own basically, the list is pretty big really.

It may be easier for you to say what size tank you plan on setting up and what other fish you like, then people can chip in and add comments.

the tank is a 4ft bay 260lt which is about 58g or 70us g. i think. i like the idea of having bit of a mix. so are most types of cichlids more aggressive in pairs? i like fire mouths, from what i have just read sounds like they can hold there own.

I'm guessing you have a Juwel vision 260, I've got one too :p.

I think all cichlids get more aggressive when in pairs and have eggs to defend, its just their instincts to protect their young. I should think you could have a pair of FM and a pair of cons in that tank if you wanted, though lay out the tank with clear territories and expect some aggression.

yeah that sounds good. as long as the aggro don't get to bad, but i would have thought both will be able to hold there own, so it will be a stale mate. fingers crossed.

i would like to get a few jags, but i need a MUCH bigger tank. soon may be!
