I've had them breed at as small as 2 inches. They WILL kill the other fish, they are very, very aggresive. I've nver had pinks but I assume the females still have a red belly, shorter fins, no hump on top of their head, and basically look more steamlined, but I could be wrong on all that.

thanks im guessing it takes longer for the hump to come in
out of the three one has some pink on its belly but they are probably
only an inch. maybe a bit bigger.

I've had some breed at 1 and 1/2 inches before so like briielzebub mentioned, very young.

I wouldn't worry about the nuchal hump as not all fish get them and both males and females can get nuchal humps so it shouldn't be used as a sexing indicator in and of itself.

thanks they do a war dance type thing when they breed right ? :)

The male swimming/shivering(like bashing his body against things) around the female, chasing and lip locking.Yeah! :hey:

there chasing each other right now but thats all I think there just showing each other
who's cave is who's either that or they have paired off and are chasing but I dident think they would be getting things on that fast.

You'll know when they are serious about breeding when they start digging pits in the sand/gravel and start chasing all other fish away from their selected breeding spot. And when they start growing horns and breathing fire!
