Hello, the convicts a had i am sure that their pregnant are they very easy to breed then i know that the guy that i had them off said that theres 2 females plus a male plus some little ones. He did say that he had a few little ones from them???

The 4 FT Tank i recently puchased should be ready for when i get home tonight so i can put me oscar and the convicts in alone to themselves. Any suggestions for anything ?

careful with your convicts, if they are a breeding pair you should get an adult oscar preferably as a little one may be terrorised :(

Definately make sure that oscar is about 3x bigger than them or so and I would still watch them carefully for a week or so :D

i have 2 breeding convict females with eggs,
one clutch of eggs is from a pink convict female and a nicaragua cichlid male ( very colourfull )
and the other is a female black convict with a male sajica.
they interbreed very easily !! im not the sort of person that stops this though as the fish like eachover and i am getting result with raising fry so there is no harm,
the female covnicts are agressive but passive. the males are very agressive, from what i hear male convicts are very nasty at breeding time! i would maybe put them both alone ? or have a BIG oscar lol

Be VERY careful keeping breeding convicts with anything! Oscars, although big..are slow compared to convicts. The smaller, faster convicts..will run rings around an Oscar quite easily.

Keep that in mind. :)

actually that is true, oscars are very slow moving,
have you tried a GAR ?
they are fast and predatory and wont take any stick from other fish, they hover around the surface and wouldnt eat the eggs as they have arkward mouths and find it hard to eat anything besides a small piece of cockle or a pellet.
i own 2 types of gars they are as follows...

1x hujet gar/slant nosed gar . they are potentially large but in captivity about 6"-8" they are perfect for anyone who would like a nice peacefull fish that doesnt cause any trouble.

1x this one throws me... its either a, spotted gar, florida gar, alligator gar, ive had so much trouble identifying him... but hes nice an peacfull and a good tankmate for aggresive fish such as oscars.

hope this helps,

also you could try a swift and entertaining dither fish , i have 3 silver dollars, ther quik and discourage my cichlids from fighting.

kubora

Male convicts during breeding time are every other fishes WORST nightmare. They should be in their own seperate tank or a REALLY BIG TANK just because they are so territorial. :/ :D
