I have a male and a female convict, bought them maybe 4-5 months ago, they spawned and raised one batch of fry, the fry were eaten either by the cons or the 4 giant danios in the tank. The female got P/O'd so they began to fight, i moved her to a 10 gallon by herself, I let a month pass, put them back in together, they swam with each other for maybe a day, and then they began fighting again, what can I do, wait maybe 3-4 months and try again? Or do they recognize each other and will never mate again? Yes I know they were fighting because of them locking lips together, flaring, biting nipping, all of the above.

Only fish in that 30 gallon are 4 giant danios.

Thanks in advance

Tom

I think, given time apart, the bond will break and they would need to re-pair off again.

If they're fighting now to the point that one is getting injured, there's little chance of them pairing off again. Have you tried moving the decor around to break the established fish's territory? That way, they're both effectively "new" to the tank. Failing that, I'd try adding some more cons to let a new pair bond between the strongest and most fertile fish. You'll get a better pair that way.

They actually have been taking turns in the 30, male was in the ten, now the female, they were locking lips, and i dont really see any injuries so, maybe ill put her back in and let them try to bond again? they arent really exactly going at each other, more so just swimming along and then all of a sudden she wigs out and flares up at him and they lock lips. Ill put her in and watch vigorously for signs of damage

Actually just watched them after re-adding the female and the female is cleaning out the terra cotta clay pot and swimming around with each other and flaring. I have a quick vid of what happened, but I think things are looking on the bright side now. They are shaking heads at each other and swimming together, no biting or anything, from the looks of things they might spawn and I might get it on film :hyper: .
