If they breed they will cause havoc with anything else in the tank. Even if they don't breed, I would def not with the ram as the will harrass him like crazy and they will just battle with the gourami's for tank dominance.

No way...breeding convicts will not tolerate any fish anywhere near their breeding site. They are extremely aggressive when breeding. Imagine if they set up their breeding site in the middle of the tank...the other fish will have nowhere to go. I would strongly suggest you put them in a tank by themselves if you are going to have a male and a female convict.

Exactly and I mean you don't have a 350G tank like Bullrock74 here :p which you could maybe allow for enough distance for the breeding pair

EDIT: spelling

i didnt say i want to breed i ment to say if i get a male or female convict by itself so it dont breed.

by itslef would still be kinda hairy as i think it would still pick on the ram and fight alot with your gourami's. Well maybe a female wouldn't but i'm pretty sure a male would. Again, it's a cichlid and you can't be assured every fish will act the same way

convicts like there own space, even on there own they will dig about and hold onto a specific spot.

what are the dimensions of your tank???

you say 2ft 55g.

i dont think even a 2ft cube is 55 gallons.........

Actually, they dominated half of my 8x3x2 tank! I had to separate them, so all the males are in the big tank and the female got relocated to the 95gallon tank. Convicts are absolute demons when breeding.

wow, thats crazy lol
Me and a friend had a funny thought. 10 ft aquarium with 2 Giant Gouramis (nearly fully grown) in and a Peruno Catfish all cowering in fear in the top hand corner because 2 small convicts have got a cloud of fry.

my mate had a 14" oscar and he put a male and female convicts * about 2 - 3 inches * the next morning he woke up to find a whole load of eggs and his oscar dead with chunks taken out of the oscar :S i feel sorry for it

What makes them so bad is their incredible speed. One of the them can "fly" around a fish and bite it twice before it even knows what has hit it.

Even more proof for you to be careful with breeding convicts :good:
