Convicts + Other Fish = ?

I think I know the answer but I'll ask anyway. I have a 29 gallon wirh two convicts in there [a boy and a girl] and the have some babies. Can I add anything else in there with them?

What if I had just one, could I have others in with it?

well if you knew the answer was no, then you were right. Breeding cons are very territorial and anything that would suitable size to fit in the 29G will get beat up and possibly killed by the parents. sorry

I would say maybe a fm, if both were female, or maybe soem of the larger "dwarf" cichlids so they can hold there own. The 29G is just kind of a funny size for New worlds. Alot of the species get too big and alot are twoo small and peaceful for the con.

If an upgrade were possible, a 55G could hold prob an acara, a con, and a fm. Plus you could have some dithers in there like giant danios along with them and maybe a plec

As for tank mates, I have a single convict doing very well with a Green terror and two Jack Dempseys. They chase each other around a good deal...but none are tormented. There are other fish in the tank too, but they are not cichlids. But I have to agree with the size concern. A 29 gal tank is too small for most New World cichlids

My 2 are doing fine atm. There is a little bullying going on between then...but what can ya say other than they are convicts lol.
