hi
i got 11 from a guy about 2 months ago, mum and dad and fry-tho obviously the fry are bigger now ( about an inch) the thing is i wante to try to breed them as a step up from platys, but the day before the cichlids were due to arrive my 4 ft tank got smashed, i now as i said have 11 of them in a 3 ft tank! there are lots of pots and plants in there, they all seem to get on well considering, but is this going to affect the breeding as nothing has happend yet, the mum and dad dont seem to be bitching and the kids just go where the parents scare them into going, but they do all nick each others pots till chased out, i have another 4ft that has 4 clown loaches and a plec, in shall i move some of the kids into there?? just to help, or should i leave it till i see eggs ( if ever) i did have plans before i got them that included the use of 2 tanks a 3ft and a 4ft but obv now its just this one and the one with the clowns availible to use
and while im here what are the signs of eggs about to arrive?? i know about them preping the pots etc, should i do anything special? i have been priming them with extra goodies, like bloodworm, but i dont think they are taking the hint :shifty:

cheers in advance

Hmmm, you could move the babies, I would have thougth at an inch they would be safe from the CL and plec. I'm still working out why you want to breed convicts :p, only reason I can think of is feeders but that doesn't seem like something you'd do if you want to save the babies. You might have a very hard time finding them homes.

Convicts are litterally just add water fish, I wouldn't be surprised if the babies start spawning soon. If you remove the babies then I think for sure the parents will spawn again, if they are still looking after the current babies at an inch then thats dedication :p.

yes well i was re-thinking for exactly that reasons you have given, but ive got them now, ill move them into the other tank anyway, my lfs will have 1 lot of babies off me, maybe i will try to rehome after that, as i dont really have the tank space to devout to them any longer :(
thanks for your reply :)

yeah id be tempted to move the babys then the adult pair will most probs spawn for you
hows your blue platty's shelaugh?
:good: scot
