I have a pair of Convicts that i think are going to breed but i'm not sure they do this swimming thing where they swim around each other i was wondering if it was courtship or what. any advice on breeding behaviors is welcome thanks all.
If you have a pair, it sounds like this could be a prelude to breeding. You will also see them cleaning a surface and staying together around the site more. Do you have any other fish in there?
Sounds like the mating dance to me too. When I had a stripped pair together, they did this. And they started really guarding this one cave in the tank and they hadn't even laid eggs yet. I wasn't really sure what was going on with them at the time, but one day I came in a saw both of them teamed up against the much larger dempsey that was in the tank with them and they were beating the stuffin's outta him. I immediately took the male out and moved him to another tank because I didn't want to be trying to raise fry. I just figured it was better safe than sorry!
If you were hoping to get a breeding pair, it sounds like you've got one!
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
