I have a 89L aquarium containing a pair of convicts and an oscar. The oscar is about 4" in length and the male convict is about 3" and the female is about 1.5" and last night i found the female had laid eggs on the side of a rock. (coincidence as my neolamprologus brichardi bred at the same time accross the room in another tank :)) How long will they take to hatch and will they survive with the oscarin the tank? I cant move any fish other than the fry when they hatch into a 54L tank containing mollies, neon tetra, a guppy, platys, 3 tiny 1" kribs. I might move the neolamprologus fry into that tank aswell. Is that an ok idea??
Cheers, Joemuz

I'd worry that the con will harass the oscar rather than the other way around. 89 litres is way too small for an oscar anyway. what dimensions is it? if you have a divider, I'd put that it to separate the cons and the oscar, then get a larger tank to house the oscar away from breeding cons.

its 30" 12" 12" its ok for it at that size now and will rehouse it in a few months when he grows a bit. The cons have been harrasing the oscar especially the male con so if it gets bad i will divide the tank while i sort it out.Cheers for the help, Joemuz

yup oscar is goin to die

and you dont have to move the fry until 2 weeks or after

you'll just be in the same situation in a few weeks again anyway. Irrespective of the oscar and convict's size, a 89 litre tank is simply too small for breeding cons and an oscar. There is not enough space for their territories. You need to get a divider in there for the time being and get the oscar out into a bigger tank asap.
