I have a tank with jelly bean parrot fish this now and another tank with a few angels. I am thinking about changing my tanks around and putting the parrots with the angels and some convicts together (i am getting given a few convicts) and am wondering whether these guys will live peacefully together?

What other fish would be good in with them?

Cory's were another idea for the tank along with maybe snails and shrimps (think the shrimps would get munched though!!)

Any thoughts would be good!!

Yep I think the convicts would be a bad idea with all of the other fish, perhaps maybe with the parrots they'd be ok, but not angels or corys. You couldn't have parrots with corys either. And snails would soon be gobbled up, as would the shrimps ;)

I didnt think the shrimps would last but i have had cory's in with the parrots before and they survived ok.

My brother had blood parrots and angels together and they seemed to mingle just nicely together.

MMMMMM

I'm still not sure. I know the parrots and convicts will be class together!!

Any chance of cross breeding does anybody think??

(p.s. jumping the thread is fine as it is the same question really and we are all on the quest for knowledge hehe!!)

I might be completely wrong, but I think JB parrots are parrots crossed with convicts already (either that or the hideous dyed ones that are falsely sold as them) - so yes, they could crossbreed. Dont know with parrots being hybrids whether you'd get any living fry out of it though.

alrighty i will tell you my personal experience with these fish.

yes, cories, cons and JB parrots can go together. th tank size has a big part of this though. the personality of each fish goes into play as well. i have 3 reticulated cories (grow about 3" or so), a pair of breeding JBs (thought they both were female until i found eggs one day), and a pair of brreding convicts (only 1" big at this time) and they all do fine together. the cories are never attacked and the pairs never fight.

part of this i feel is that when all my fish are young (about an inch or less) i purposely put them in a tank with a larger fish to kinda scare them a bit. dont think its cruel people its a sailfin pleco lol not a bigger threat. but the fish naturally are scared of the bigger fish, and the pleco is peaceful so no damage ot the fish. so in the tank they are in i keep this pleco and all is well. they stay peaceful a bit more. but just because this works for me doesnt mean it'll work for everyone.

persoanlly i wouldnt go with angels for a couple of reasons. first off i dont like them lol. second i dont know much about them, but i think they would get harassed to death by convicts and JBs. the only thing that would be bad is if you're angels paired off, they would get incredibly aggressive.

i also have a bunch of snails in the tank ranging from all types and sizes. from apple, to ramshorn to malaysian trumpet snails. only one of the fish eat the snails on me. this is my smallest JB. she was doing the typical moving of the gravel one day when she pulled the shell of a malaysian trumpet snail (MTS) she turned it around thinking it was a rock and sucked the snail up (right out of the shell). well she developed a taste for them and eats them on me. the mts are the only ones she touches though.

as for breeding. JBs and cons an interbreed. cons can virtually breed with anyhting there is out there lol. but whether you fell JBs are jsut shortbodied cons or BP x con they still are at least part convict so they will be able to breed.

hmm... did i miss anything?

oh yea, the shrimp, unless you want ot treat the cichlids to a snack i wouldnt get them. about 6 months ago i kept buying ghost shrimp for my tank and found out that between the JB and the male betta in my tank, the shrimp were becoming meals once the malted and became vulnerable.

well that is my experience, if you want any further details, please feel free to PM me and i will tell you more :D

Cons and JB's can co exist as they are pretty much the same fish but angels and shrimp will not work as they will be attacked/eaten.

Corys Parrots and cons carnt go with eachother, unless u want a dead parrot, cons are very agressive but ive herd that female cons are more laid back than males

In regards to ^^^ ... jb parrots and convicts SHOULD be fine together.

Cories though I definitely wouldn't try with convicts. It might work for some people, but I think the majority of convicts would be too aggressive for cories.

Thank you all for your help!!

I have gone for the convicts and the JB parrots all together and they seem happy (except i had to move the hiding areas of the breeding pairs as i was swapping tanks with them but they will settle in the new tank soon enough)

I have left the cories out of the tank and may get some corys, shrimps and snails for my other tank instead. I have put an oto in this now with the parrots and he seems to be fine. The convicts are really just fry this now but will grow. They look great!!

Thanks for all the help!!
