In my 200 litre tank I have a few various plecos (nothing that grows more than about 7 inches) , a couple of bronze cories and one baby convict measuring an inch. Tomorrow three Bolivian Rams arrive. They will be bigger than the baby convict so I doubt this will be a problem initially. But will a single convict be likely to cause problems to the rams when it becomes an adult? This kind of ram gets to about 4 inches I believe. I am fairly sure it is a female convict since it is the last remaining from some fry I sold, and was one of the smallest in the bunch. That should mean it is a little less aggressive perhaps?

I am intending to keep an eye on them and remove the convict if it starts causing trouble.

never kept convicts but from what i hear they are very unforgiving of tank-mates other than mates.

Ive bred convicts once and they are pretty aggressive. i hav 1 female convict left and its 3inchs it fin nips my full grown flower horn.

They are certainly known to be aggressive when spawning and also when they are used to having an area to themselves and newcomers arrive. I think it might not bother the Bolivian rams though as they are supposed to be quite boisterous.

Today the 3 rams arrived. I am 99% sure one is a male because of its tail so I am hoping these fish might soon breed. I wonder if anyone here knows whether the spawn will stand a chance with the one convict in the tank and the plecos/cories? Will the parents only have to fend off the con? If so then that should not be too difficult for them.

Your female convict will probably bully your rams, but as with all cichlids, they are individuals and only time will tell. I have four convicts in an aggressive cichlid community, three are fine, but one is an aggressive little so and so. I don't think your ram fry will stand much chance in your tank with a convict in there.

Oh well - if that's the case perhaps I will remove the convict when the problem arises! Thanks for the advice :)
