I bought a Convict pair, Jack Dempsey, and a Firemouth. I added them all at the same time. The Convict killed the Firemouth and the Female Convict. I moved the Jack Dempsey before he could kill him. I tried many times moving the plants and caves around and he still would fight my Jack Dempsey. I tried a Peacock Bass. He killed it. I tried another Female Convict. They raised babies, then he killed it. What are some tank mates for a Convict?

My tank is 20 gallon but I am going to move him into my 55 gallon if I can find compatible tank mates. I tried a pleco but he almost killed it. I moved it before he killed it. Any suggestions on tank mates?

I wouldn't go for any tankmates with breeding cons. Leave the cons in the 20g (though it is a little small and will get VERY dirty quickly when you have loads of fry in there) and leave yourself open to more options with stocking for the 55.

WOW!!!! A pair of cons in a 20 gallon is not enough room. But when you go with a 55 gallon I would suggest the following:
- 1 Firemouth
- 1 Jack Demsey
- 2-3 Convicts ( I would only go with all females though )
Don't go with the Peacock Bass though, they get wayyyyy to big. Oh and have lots of hiding places.

i have 2 convicts - i think ( the male i think is some random fish not a convict) in a 55 gal. with a green terror and a pleco.. all do fine. a little fighting buts that normal

I don't have a pair of convicts because he killed the female after they had babies. So, He is all by himself in a 20 gallon. What about an Oscar as one of the tank mates?

Nope Oscars get way too big and are way to messy for a 20 gallon. At least a 60 gallon for one oscar. I would just another female, and have lots of hiding places and what not. If you are willing to get rid of the male, you will have a lot more options.

I meant an Oscar in a 55 gallon with a Convict. I know an oscar can't live in a 20 gallon because they get about a foot long. I asked the pet store, I bought him from, if they would buy the convict back, and they said maybe they would trade him for another fish. I want to get rid of him. If I got rid of him What cichlids would do well with a Jack Dempsey in a 55 gallon?

I would go with either of the following:

1 JD
2 Firemouth
or
Pair of JD's
or
1 JD
1 Pike cichlid

There's a lot of options these are just the ones I like.
