Convict Sexing?

Well alright, once again I have something strange. Looking at the discription of the Convict, from this forums board which I have copied and will now paste here:::::

Sexing - One of the easiest cichlid to determine sex. During the breeding period females will have gold/red spots on her sides and belly. The males normally dark bars will become a metallic silver.


I have two Convicts that have the reddish/ orange bellies, along with these two Females their are now about a few hundred free swimming fry! I WISH I HAD A PICTURES TO PROVE THIS!!

This is the second time I have posted with this issue. But not the same two, This is a different pair.

I have only One Male and he is not in the same tank.

Well you can guarantee that the 2 fish are not both females

Is one bigger than the other, males are bigger generally. Also males can have longer extending fins than the females I think

It is indeed strange. I will go buy a camera after this post. I will be happy to figure this out. Both are the same size. I have 2 other males, but they are in a different tank. and Both are typical Male apperence from what Ive seen male convict. You are right about the tails being longer too. And the males being alot larger than females.

Do male also show orange/ red on their bellies too? Cause these two have orange/red bellies.

Ah screw this I'll get a cam. I'll be right back.

Love the music lol

I am thinking it is the one on the right at the start of the vid that is male, only because the head looks a bit steeper in angle...could be wrong though I see what you mean!!!
Edit: Looked at it again and I'm not so sure now lol
