I have been lucky enough to have been given 5 beautiful convicts, they are small abour 1 1/2", I have 4 males one female. Two males are in my 400l tank and the other 3 are in a smaller tank on their own. However one of the males is really really tiny (about 3/4") and he is hiding from the other two. My problem is he is far too tiny to go in the big tank (he would be lunch for sure) but I dont know where is safe to put him. I have a choice of..

1 setting up my 2ft quaranteen tank. moving the male and female and leaving titch where he is.
2 Putting him in with my Ellioti fry which are in a 30" tank and are about the same size
3 One of my boys tanks.
a) 3ft with baby Kribs (3) 2 rams, neons and danios
b) 3ft with danios 2 rams. 1 kissing gourami
4 My 300l community tank with angels, gourami, rams (large male krib?).

Second question, what size tank would be suitable for a breeding pair of convics if there were on their own?

Thanks

i kept mine in a grow out tank till they were about an inch, then put them in with cats, gouramis etc they were fine theyre very fast and clever

you do know whats going to happen when they start to breed?

I should have said I only want to move him temporarily so he can grow a bit as I am hoping to finally get my other 5ft tank set up before Christmas as it has been sat in the garden now for months!

Hi Shelaghfishface, so he could be ok with the gourami's for a while, brill!

I have heard I should have lots and lots of little convicts (hopefully) Only going to do it once because the kids find it facinating watching the parents look after the babies. The loved watching the Kribs till I lost the female and the Ellioti till I lost the male!

well mine were fine

they will breed so long as they have water.. then they get very very aggressive.. so you will have to watch out- they are excellent parents tho, but the first fry need to be moved within weeks as the parents will see them as a threat to new batch of babies

ask the LFS if they are willing to take the fry off you, if they are great, if not then ebay? if not then rethink
