Just realised after getting back from the FS that my demale convict is missing 3/4 of the width of her right pectoral fin and missing 3/4 width of her left pelvic fin, didn't spot it at the store and nor did the member of staff, she seems to be doing well, feeds ok and doesn't seem to have any problem swimming, no signs of disease, obviously the FS said no problem to bring her back but will she recover, she is only about 1 1/2" at the moment, I've watched the tank for the last hour and she is not gettting picked on or bullied.

Will these fins recover? If so how long will it take, is there any thing that would help the recovery along?

Cheers for any advice :)

yes the fins will regrow, you can add a small dose of melafix to speed up the process if you like, but in a healthy aquarium it shouldn't take too long for it to grow back naturally

Ok thanks, I noticed tonight he has started rubbing him self on the sand, just a quick slap, does this mean an infection?

Scratching or rubbing is usually due to parasites, are there any visible white spts on the fish or is the fish breathing heavily?

yeah doesn't sound good

look closely at the fins, are they torn, bitten or do they look like they've been worn away (i.e. fin rot)

if you can then isolate the new fish asap while you suss out what's wrong with the, don't want it spreading to the existing fish.

It just looks like she's been bullied and the fins bitten off, she is doing fine in the new tank and hasn't done the slapping thing since, while I've been watching any way, I think I might try a salt dip just to be sure, the method I was going to use is here, http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/treatment_tips.php will that be ok for a 2 inch convict?
