hello all, i am new to this forum but not to fish keeping. I hav'nt kept fish for about 5 years but got quite successful with convicts. I now have a new Jewel 125 ltr tank (how many gallons is that?). I have set it up well with some experienced advice over a month. I have good PH levels and temerature about 78F.

I introduced about 4 days ago 1 male convict of about 2.5 inches and 2 lady friends for him of about 2 inches. They seem very happy in there and are already showing breeding/display behaviour.

Does anyone have any top tips on convicts, such as natural feeding, natural environment or anything that will make them feel at home

I am an amature so please don't get too technical

Well mate first thing your in the wrong forum convicts are nw cichlids not african.
Other problems are your tank isnt big enough for 3 convicts minimum tank size is 30g and yours is 27.5g so you could only really only just house 1 due to the very aggressive nature.

fair enough. would 27.5g be enough for the fish if they are all thats in there. i do not intend to put more than 3 in there. :(

1 convict on it's own maybe not a pair it that tank.

did you cycle the tank?

you can't have a pair and another on it's own really as the pair will terrorise the other.

are you planning on breeding?

also PM a mod to move this to the NW cichlids section for more advice.

:good:

If the male and one of the females pair up.. they will kill the other female.

The tank really isn't big enough for 3 convicts.. you might be able to get away with 2, but definitely not 3.
