I have a 30 gal community tank and a 10 gal tank that I was going to put some convicts in at a buddy's request (he's got an oscar and wants the free food). So I went to the lfs and bought three of them, two males and one female. this was at the lfs's reccomendation, saying they work best in groups of three or more and that three would be fine. well, after seeing these forums, she's on smack, and after seeing the two who obviously are 'pairing' up tag on the odd man out, I need to put him somewhere. I thought about putting him in my 30 gal community tank. will he be safe there? or better yet, will the OTHER fish be safe with him in there?

judging by the 30g in your signature and the fish in it.. i wouldnt recommend it. i dont think the neons would last too long. convicts really only belong with other cichlids in bigger tanks.

if you cons breed everything in the tank will be dead, and even the other male con may die because the female and male will kill them off to protect the babies.

Convicts are not what id call a community cichlid...and only suited with fish thst can hold there own...most of the fish in that 30 are not....i'd return him to the Ifs where you got him from...

how big is he?
maybe if he's small, you could try it as an emergency solution...
but go get him another tank (I would recommend 20g at least) and his own female...

I keep some of my con fry in the community.
Well, I meant for them to be feeders, but they are so fast and tough, that they are still alive in there :)

For their size convicts can be one of the meanest and aggressive fish out there .

I'd find him another home .
