Convict fry

O.k... I just had to ask for it. I finally got 4 convicts, waited till they all paired up (I actually got 2 males, 2 females), and waited...and waited....and waited. Then one day I seen movement in the tank and lo and behold, I had fry comin outta the wazoo. The first lot didn't live. I think the second pair, which I still had by that stage ate em all when they took over the tank because the female chased off the male and couldn't keep up with protecting them. I later got rid of the second pair and kept the two that bred. Without the strain of the second pair, the female no longer chases off the male and they have had 2 or three consecutive hatches, the first ones are alot bigger now, about 2 mm and the second lot are still hanging out on the bottom. Got be stuffed how I'm gunna offload the lil buggers though, not many shops take convicts here lol oh well...

do you have some tanks that are not used?

I seperated a batch of 200fry in smaller groups, and I'm feeding them a little different. It's weird to see the difference in growth.
Even lighting seems to make a difference.
When they are bigger, I'll post what I have found out.
But maybe you can do a similar thing?

ok, time for an update...I got rid of the adults and left the fry in the tank, the larger fry ate every last one of the later broods then started on each other. Now I have 2 large fry out of aprox 75 to 100 fry! Oh well, guess it saves having to try and offload em all

lmao I have no idea. I fed the lil buggers plenty and they still canibalised their brothers and sisters! I always seem to end up with the freaks lol Not that I mind, I like freaks, they're more interesting and different, hence my obsession for rarer fish and oddballs (which I think I will stick to now I've tried my hand at convicts).
