convict cichlids

hey guys, im thinking of stocking my 20g with these fish. Anyone had experience with them ? also, i have put sand in the tank but cant afford the tuffa rock etc. am i ok 2 just plant this tank for now? ill obviously get a couple of caves etc for them 2 hide.

oh, i forgot! is there any other type of fish that are v interesting? greedy? aggressivet etc. Im after an eye turner. I know puffers will get 2 big for my tank. But these are lovely

Nothing I can say about convict cichlids, but there are some types of puffers you can keep in a 20 Gallon. If you might be interested in them, I think you're best of looking around in the OddBall Section of this forum and perhaps post there about what puffers you could keep in a 20 Gallon

If you get 2 convicts who end up spawning, you won't be able to keep ANYTHING else in a 20g, they'll most likely kill it b/c they get very aggressive during spawning.

not to mention they are going to rip up the plants when they make their spawning sites, another concern is if you are using a HOB filter you might want to go and buy a Aquaclear sponge so that you can cut a peice off and then rubber band it over the intake of the filter deff don't want to get sand in there cause it will tear it up. in fact the main feature of may central american cichlid biotypes is nothing but rocks and driftwood, there really aren't many with a large amount of plants.
