THEY DID PAIR OFF :D :D

i now have bunch of babies...

pretty tight space tho.. gonna have to move a bunch of fish...

they getting kinda aggressive but still not injuring any other fish..

i love it... convict babies swimmin around int he corner.. parent are protecting them so i dont think ill take any of them out.

could i net a few and stick em with my guppies maybe?

In my experience, when the fry grow out and begin to roam the tank, the parents aggression grows remarkably and will probably seriously injure other fish in the tank, especially foreign cons. According to your sig, you have four in one tank? Are the other cons paired up, too? Or, just the one pair?

just the one pair... the other cons hide in seperate places.. i have a spare 10 gallon tank so maybe i should put the other 2 in there and see if they pair off.. still waitin on the new tank ..... still convincing parents lol.. the mom keeps eatin babies i think.. when they swim away she eats em.. and i dont see her spit them back out... meh i guess ill just leave em

my convict babies are stilll not free swimming and are stayin in the pot
i say my femal eat a couple babys so i took her out and stuck her in a breeding net for about 10 minutes and then put her bak and she stopped eating them
how many do u have?
i think i have about 150-200

i think i have about 50.... hard to see cause they blend in pretty good with the rocks... and they pretty much just wiggle around on the bottom around the rocks.... any amount is good for me... 50 is good... so i wont have too many that grow up.. cause i might have troubles getting rid of them.. im sure if they grow up a lfs would be happy to have some free fish

Yeah the numbers dwindle if you leave em with the parents after a while

I had about 100-125 babies when they first hatched. 3 weeks later the babies are almost 1/2" long and i'm down to about 40-50.

thats still good tho.. nobody wants 200 babies to deal with... at least i dont think....different if its like guppies cause u can jus leave em... convicts obviously cant be left or theyll all kill each other.... even if i get 4-5 that grow up id be happy

congrats man. i want to line breed cons and get some cool marbled cons, or ones with cool patterns. im on the F2 now.

i cant find any marble convicts. do u know where i can get some? i cant find them anywhere i think they look cool

i wanted a pink convict too... but i couldnt find any anywhere... so i jus got the standard ones... i remember seein pink ones years ago... bet couldnt find any around here :(

the parents moved the babies across the width of the tank.... but they dont seem to care about them that much... i fed them... and the parents left the babies for like 3-4 mins to feed.... the babies started roaming around but the other fish didnt try to eat them... the other fish stay on the other side of the tank... im going to have to move them this weekend

Leave em alone, the parents know what they are doing. Mine did the same thing. The babies will figure out they need to stay together. You WILL lose some babies, but you want to as 100 1" cons will not be easy to house.

My cons took their babies for counterclockwise laps around the tank. 90% of the time at least 1 parent will be with them and the babies will learn to swim toward them. The other wish in the tank will learn to stay away.

My babies are about 3 weeks old and 1/4" long. The parents still care for them, but they have more free range. I've seen single babies just swim out and about on their own and explore where they want to. This probably had to do with the fact that nothing in my tank really will go after them. Out of 100 fry, i probably have 40 right now. I'm worried that if the babies get too comfortable and leave the group too soon, the parents will breed again before i can find homes for their current batch. The female already looks nice and plump.

i gotta try and get the other fish out of the tank... theyre down to about 30 babies now i think... and they stressed from all the other fish.. tried to catch em but they dont want to be caught

Dont worry too much about loosing a lot of fry, you will have another batch before you know it. Since my pair started breeding they havnt stopped, new batch every 30-45 days.
