I have noticed the past few days that some of the posts I have had the pleasure of commenting on seem to get really uptight when more experienced members are trying to direct them in a good direction, for the betterment of the fish they keep. Just out of curiosity, how many people find constructive criticism offensive?

I only ask as I thought the purpose of this forum was not just to show the wonderful habitats you have creative, but for advice and to learn about the hobby from those who have more experience. I know I am open to any criticism. But are you?

I try to comment where I am knowledgeable. I can't say anything about cichlids, but I know my livebearers :p

I'm only asking as I have seen some rude individuals be really snippy and snooty when more experienced members offer corrections. I honestly thought that was why we were here.

Being new to this hobby I definitely love all the advice I can get.... even on fish I don't necessarily have an interest in keeping. I just want to absorb all this fishy information! :p

I remember when I first came to this site, I got my feelings hurt. I was doing SOOOO much wrong. But I have happy thriving communities, and I feel like I have learned so much from the experiences of people on this forum. I am setting up cichlid tanks now, and I am all over this site, just researching peoples experiences with different types of fish. I cannot say that there is a single member on here that I haven't learned something new from, and this includes the new people. I really enjoy this site, and the wonderful people on it.

Well I've been offended by the way they word things, I posted a pic of my tank to show that I have gravel and automatically the plants I have in there were assumed to be "unsafe" for my fish...I only got minimal compliments about my tanks and zero pointers :grr:

I loved the uniqueness of your tank, and I wouldn't recommend changing them as they represent you.

well I'm waiting till I find some live plants that i like, so many options I don't know what to put in there, also thinking of putting some rocks and possibly some wood, maybe going for a more natural look? ????

That would be cool. You could also cut down the stalks of the colorful flowers so they sit lower and have more of a "planted" look. Honestly. I love the look of real plants, but I do not have a single tank in my house that has real plants in them. The most natural looking tank I have is my cichlid tank, and that was easy as it is nothing but heavy stonework and cave formations.

yea, I've been looking around my local LFS' for certain plants, live and fake, getting ideas, looking at what others have done with their tanks, trying to get some sort of plan going for my 60gal my husband got me for my birthday, the 10gals I am probably going to leave with fake plants, my son loves the spongebob tank and the jungle tank I might use for the fry or prego mommas...

I'll have to check it out! I had lily pads before but they kind of took over the top of my tank and my betta didn't like that too much

Ive been scoping out different plants on aquabid.com and there are some great plants! I was looking into plants for my cichlid tank, but the selctions I have are known for destroying plants lol. So eventually I am going to go planted in my 40g. I definitely want tons of moss for all my livebearer fry.

I know i had java moss in my fry tank when I saved my first batch. The babies loved it. I also have a couple of pieces of driftwood that i found that are in the prepping stages. Although i may just stick with my fake driftwood and plant around it :p
